大綱:
侯子原從小跟阿公住在一起，名字也是阿公取的：『取叫子原，是希望你長大以後不要忘了你是侯家的孩子，不要忘了原來的自己。』 子原不愛講話，面對班上同學的捉弄，也總是敢怒不敢言。看書，成了他唯一的嗜好。這天，阿公送了本『無字字典』給愛書的子原；唯有完成字典中的注釋，『字』才會浮現。從此，子原的生活變得忙碌，追尋『字』的過程，讓子原覺得就算不愛說話，日子一樣能過得很 有趣。可是，唯有『英雄』兩字，子原試了很多方法，卻無法讓字浮現，究竟是要扶老奶奶過馬路 、還是模仿警察抓小偷或是面對捉弄時勇敢表達，才是『英雄』？
